Yes. The whole connection procedure (hello / answer / getvariablelist / answer) should have time out and sanity check to display errors to the user. Output to the log windows could be useful as well.

When connecting, a 'hello' package is sent to the robot. If this packet is lost however (eg. if sent over the air) or the reply is lost or corrupted the client keeps running without receiving a properly formatted reply, while the robot thinks it is connected. There should be a check from both sides to make sure that the 'hello' call was received and the reply as well, otherwise they should be re-sent.
