This is a feature request, especially since alink half-solved it. (Not saying it's a bad one, mind you.)

reactivated after the zoom reset by using the toggle of the default zoom hotkey

Maybe this is technically a feature request rather than a bug, but the way it currently works seems broken to me.

My laptop screen has 150 dots per inch, which requires me to hunch over to distinguish all the units, so I play at about 150%. Or, I would if I didn't have to reset it every time I completed (or restarted) a scenario or reloaded the game. The quality is only a little bit worse when you have that many pixels.

I wasn't aware that the "default zoom level" hotkey would switch it back and forth. At least that keeps me from having to constantly retune the level during a session.

I think the zoom level should be saved in the preferences file. I wouldn't mind if the level was reset when I restarted BfW, as long as I could get back to my preference with a single key press. Far better would be a slider with a button that automatically set it to the current zoom level. Also, with the percent showing above the slider, it would be easy to set the level to exactly 150% or 200%, which looks better than something in between.

The "default zoom level" hotkey switches between default and last level used. That could be used to restore the level wanted. Unfortunately, this last level used is also reset at 0.5x after each reload. But we could easily save it in the preferences file. This will also allow to easily tune it by using + and - keys to check the level in real time (instead of using a slider somewhere). Plus you could still very easily switch back to normal level.

If this last level used was a saved, the reset to default would be just a small annoyance. Maybe we could use this last zoom used when reloading a game but I think that at least when starting the game, it must be reset. If not any distracted user could hit the + key, don't notice the zoom change and keep playing with that zoom level. And zooming is not very good for sprite and IIRC it uses significantly more memory.

Does that will fix your problem ?

I'm not really convinced it's a bug, but rather a design issue. It could be fixed by making the zoom level a real preference value instead of tied to the current display (which gets reset in the cases you named).

Do you always play with the same zoom level and out of interest if so why do you use a different value as 100% ?

The zoom level resets if you do anything other than take a turn. It resets when you go back to the menu, load a game, or start a scenario.
