The task bar is not empty indeed and can still redraw “shaded” windows by clicking on application boxes. The only real solution would be to remove this element from the panel menu of elements that can be added. I propose to postpone this ticket since people need to manually add the task bar to the panel in order to get the issue.

I replaced the left button on the window title bar with the “shade” button. This way the window menu is not available anymore and shading (window are reduced to their title bar) is easier to use. This should make the task bar always empty and thus totally useless.

I've already encountered your error message. I don't know why but there have been troubles on Debian package mirrors for a week. I had your error message for the French mirror, so I successfully switched to the German one. Yesterday the German one gave me this error too so I successfully switched back to the French one!

I plan to upload new Romanian/French CD's tonight. Maybe Russian could be uploaded tomorrow evening. NB: I'm not sure that adding Gimp will not exceed the 700MB allowed for a CD…

If you are in a hurry, try editing the package source file:

$ gksu gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

The first line is to be changed only:

deb http://ftp.ru.debian.org/debian/ lenny main

Try 'us' or 'fr' instead of 'ru'. NB: If Gedit cannot start because root has no X display, you'll have to use nano or vim in the console to edit the file…

I found out you meant terminal. I run commands specified and got error code (1) and package.gz haven't downloaded.
Think you'd better compile a special tester version of DDL including gimp.

Please explain how to access a running DoudouLinux box

I'm not sure to perfectly understand what's happening. May you join a screen capture? You can run the following commands to get Gimp installed in a running DoudouLinux box and be able to make screen captures:

$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install gimp

However the default is to not display iconified windows since I removed the iconify button on the window bar. Iconifying a window should only be possible using the window manager menu (button on the left of the window bar I suppose). We can even remove it since it is of very poor interest in my opinion…

Each iconified window is placed at top of screen and thus block task panel and each other visually
