The issue isn't reproduced with Debian Squeeze. Would could temporarily add a tool to increase/decrease font size by setting the indicated parameter in “/etc/X11/xorg.conf”.

When a laptop is plugged on an LCD TV, fonts may be too small to be read. It seems due to a confusion in Xorg configuration which may be using the physical TV screen size to set font size as if this was a computer LCD screen. It si possible to change the font size using the option “DisplaySize” in xorg.conf. This specifies a DPI resolution that seems then to be used in font size computation.
