In the Image, the square selected (which is black) was the result of me clicking the bright green painted area on the canvas area.

I used the (pick color), located in the Menu > Color > Pick Color.
The Shortcut is R
I select an area on the canvas to pick the color, and I only get shades of black or grey.
This happens if I CTRL+CLICK an area, if I press R+Click an area. If I just Click the Pick color icon in the Menu, it picks a random grey or dark grey value.

I have nut been able to successfully use the color picker at all, but everything else seems to work ok.

Please explain in detail the steps needed to reproduce. Which colour picker are you use please? How are you invoking the action: from what dialog or subwindow, and/or using which key/mouse combination?

This is almost expected behaviour if you first click on the colour picker ("eye dropper") icon and then point the mouse inside the colour selector wheel and click. You're not doing that, are you? :-)

Whenever I try to pick a color, instead of going to the color, it displays some random value of dark grey. If I leave my mouse in one place, and hold the button down, It will blink between random values of dark grey and black, until I let go. I installed it using Mac Ports, on my 10.6.7 operating system. I have and iMac i7 quad core.

I apologize if this has already been submitted, I did a search, and I didn't see anything.
