Workaround: install CompizConfig Settings Manager and enter the submenu for General Options (click on the icon or caption) and change Ping Delay. I have set mine to 30000ms to mitigate just this problem with Freeciv.

There was a "tactic" suggestion in one of the longturn games during turnchange, that one of the allies would move a unit around on railroad in a loop using goto in a way that the enemy would see. The other ally that would not see the unit would then attack. That way the enemy could not issue orders with his client.

When the turn changes and the AI does its thing, the resulting flurry of updates can take so long for the client to draw that some component of my OS (Ubuntu) decides that the application is "not responding" and fades it to grey. Once the AI is finished, the window is regarded as responding and becomes colourful again. This tends to happen if I have shared vision with an AI, or am observing one.

This is annoying, as it's harder to tell what's going on without colour information. The window is still animating perfectly fine; it's just presumably not responding to some "ping" from the OS.

It would be nice if this could be avoided (even if the user still can't usefully interact with the client during AI updates).
