[This is a canned response, please forgive the broken formatting: it's one of the many things
Gna! unfortunately does not do well.]

This bug tracker will shortly be moving to Github. As part of this process, we are reviewing
old bug reports on gna.org.

This bug was marked as Fixed long ago, but was still classified as Open. Github does not
distinguish between Fixed+Open and Fixed+Closed in the way we once did here, so this bug is
now being marked Closed, and will not be migrated into the github issues tracker.

If you believe that this bug still affects the most recent git master of MyPaint (and thus
the next release), please feel free to open a new issue on Github about it. Our new issue
trackers are:

Can't reproduce this one with the current git master.

David: can you test again please? If it's still happening, please tell us exactly the order of operations you did, starting from a blank config ("mypaint -c /tmp/throwaway123.$$").

David: I have never made a painting with frame enabled, so I trust you to have a better idea for what is usable. I have simply changed it to your values for now.

Many thanks Martin for the workaround !
I use this value now
l.595 cr.set_source_rgba(0.25, 0.25, 0.25, 1)
very cool 'next' and 'previous' also keeps the 'toggle document frame' enabled. This is good to review the storyboard sequence.

David, alpha workaround: In gui/tileddrawwidget.py look for "doc.frame_enabled" and edit color/alpha of the line cr.set_source_rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.6).

Thanks for working on frame , I abuse of them.

This grey mid alpha overlay is making me mad most of the time.
I would prefer for most artwork it to be 0% alpha, because it's not help me to see my painting strokes out of the canvas darkened. It's tricking my eyes and makes me do weird things about composition , values or tilted perspective.

Here I still would like to can setup the frame in the preferences to obtain frame variations like this depending on the project I work :
I would imagine a part in the preferences like this :

Next month I have to draw the storyboard for the Mango project in Amsterdam, and I want to abuse of Mypaint 'save as scrap' + a a desktop batch file renamer + 'next & previous' option to create a workflow about it ; having the cinema format for the filesize rounded to 64px is not a major problem ( even if it makes my full workflow rounded to 64px only for Mypaint ) , but having the display of strokes outside the canvas frame is really something annoying I would like to be fixed.

I'm also ok if you know the value in the code for turning it to 0% alpha as a workaround.

Oops, yes. The new scale overlay also messes with the frame when it fades out. Since I'm working on Cairo canvas overlays right now, maybe I'd better rejig the frame code too.

Also, if you zoom into the frame area too far, such that no frame edges are visible, the frame isn't drawn. But only in mirror mode when the view is not rotated, which is strange.

When painting oustide the 'document frame' ( activated ) in mirror mode, the compositing of the frame don't refresh, this cause the feeling to can 'paint' outside the frame.

ex :

This is a minor bug, because affect only the display. A simple panning with the spacebar or a zoom refresh and refresh it.
