Okay, reproduced. This is a build error caused by the recent libs refactoring for a separable build, and not running either the cleanup code or a purge of files not under version control. Steps to reproduce:

This sequence results in extra built libs in the working directory:

In this case, the correct fix is to either delete the one under lib/ this one, or better still to run "git clean -dfx" (warning: dangerous if you keep other files in your working areas!) on each update. Do this:

Which should result in a runnable mypaint.

Confirming that I had a similar problem with my old git copy recently. The traceback was almost identical, in fact, except that the AttributeError I got was "'module' object has no attribute 'log_lcms2_error'"

My git-fu is weak, and I wasn't able to find what files or leftover bits were causing the problem, so I just started over with a new git clone in a fresh directory. I didn't bother reporting it because I assumed it was caused by a test patch I'd applied before or something.

That fixed it for me, and it's been updating and running fine since.

Works for me with HEAD=master=1ee04f3, but I've had several problems with cleanup of late while tracking MyPaint. Does making and testing a clean tree,

work for you? If so, go back to your normal working dir, and type

to see what's in there that shouldn't be present. Try removing any "Untracked files" which don't look helpful. If this fixes it, it would be very useful if you could list the file(s) you needed to remove :-)

My guess is that an old .so file might cause this to happen.
