Since that was reported against 2.4.2, which I think is using the same Gtk versions as current releases, I don't think we can assume this is fixed by a Gtk upgrade; rather than I just didn't manage to find the conditions necessary to reproduce it.

Just tried this with both cproc's r24327 test build and cazfi's r24328 crosser build, and neither showed any funny messages in the chat window (and the text display looked OK).

Close as probably fixed by some Gtk upgrade?

I never did, apparently, and I don't seem to have kept the file cazfi prepared.

Is there still an experiment that can usefully be done here?

I've grabbed a copy, don't know when I'll try it.

Can someone test with this?

Thank you. I'll try to make build with that environment version from 2.3.2 freeciv, from which official build - with earlier environment - is reported to work, tomorrow.

No, I didn't/don't.

Today same problem with 2.4.0-beta1 Gtk Windows package: "Kriðjānis Valdemārs" (Latvian), "Džemal Bijedić" (Bosnia) and Dragoş (Moldavian).

Noticed today with the 2.4.0-beta1 Gtk Windows package, but for all I know it's been with us forever -- I haven't checked older versions.

When starting a game from the client, in the chat window, I got a single:

"Invalid string conversion from UTF-8 to CP1252."

I happened to have been dealt the Turks, leader "İsmail Enver" (first character is U+0130 "LATIN CAPITAL LETTER I WITH DOT ABOVE", in case Gna mangles it). A bit of experimentation suggests that it's the leader name that's the problem. And indeed CP1252 doesn't have that character.

I'm not sure what is trying to convert to CP1252. The leader name displayed fine in the client everywhere I saw it.
