This was probably problem with data paths. Default tileset is automatically selected from available tilesets, but none was found leading to failed assertion a bit later.

Thu Aug 30 16:58:56 2012, original submission:

I've got email about:
1: Invalid NULL default string for option default_tileset_name.
1: in option_str_set() [../../src/client/options.c::752]: assertion '((void *)0) != str' failed.

when trying to start newly installed client. My guess is that relying on builtin defaults in lack of previously saved client settings does not work at the moment. It's long time since I last tried to install freeciv to a computer that has never had freeciv before.
