[This is a canned response, please forgive the broken formatting: it's one of the many things Gna! unfortunately does not do well.]

This bug tracker will shortly be moving to Github. As part of this process, we are reviewing old bug reports on gna.org.

This bug was marked as "Ready for Test" or "Works for Me" some time ago, but was still classified as Open and no feedback has been submitted since then.
I am therefore assuming that the problem has been fixed to everyone's satisfaction (or was't reproducible by anybody else).

If you believe that this bug still affects the most recent git master of MyPaint (and thus the next release), please feel free to open a new issue on
Github about it. Our new issue trackers are:

We're dealing with two separate issues in that case.

I think I've fixed the original sidebar growth when the colour selector isn't docked into it, so I'm marking this as Ready for Test. Thanks for reporting and testing, even despite the confusion :)

For anything involving the colour selector growing, I've reopened bug #20759.

I tried again. Unfortunately, the problem persists. It seems like it might be the color selection widget inside of the window its self that is growing.

Okay, can you try again with the latest commits on the master branch, https://gitorious.org/mypaint/mypaint/commit/9571de8b3ff1ff85897fc5ef48a9b38326d49e26 ? That commit is on top of https://gitorious.org/mypaint/mypaint/commit/1ff5046fb3c123e27bbdd896b1e6fb146dc99e27 which at least fixes the original problem with this bug. I also knocked a couple of other dubious self-resizing cases on the head and/or replaced them with more modern code, so it might be fixed as a side-effect.

If not, then at least we know it's not really a duplicate.

I followed your instructions, but the problem persists. I open MyPaint and if I select either the drop down color chooser or the open the color chooser window they still rapidly increase in size, I'm not doing anything else before opening them.

Hi Ryan - I can't reproduce the latest ballooning you're reporting, but the resize behaviour is broken in other ways, so let's start digging.

Firstly, can you try the latest git master https://gitorious.org/mypaint/mypaint/commit/9f2c847a6 and see if that fixes this newest problem? I've ripped out some dodgy code of mine that probably won't play nicely under GTK3. If that doesn't fix it, I suspect it's either the list of brush group names in the Brushes dockable, or the paletteview layout stuff that's at fault.

Could you try and tie this one down to the minimal case you need to reproduce the problem? Starting with a throwaway blank configuration each time:

and then listing the sequence of actions you need to perform to see the problem would be really helpful.

Yeah, they grow on their own completely hands off. I also can't close them if they get above a certain size and they seem to steal the keyboard as well when that happens. The speed and gain is pretty comparable to a balloon being filled by a helium tank, it's very quick, but seem to be based on volume so it appears to slow the larger it gets.

I'm using Arch Linux and my GTK3 theme is FlatStudio, although changing the theme seems to have no affect on the bug (I've tried several).

I updated from git about an hour ago (10:00 PST 22 Apr 2013)

Ryan, hi:

I've bumped the priority upwards. Can you let me know what "rapidly increase in size if they're open at all" means? Does it just grow on its own when you're hands-off? How rapidly is "rapid"?

Please let us know what OS you're running, and what GTK3 theme.

Please let us know what updates you mean: dates or git revision IDs would be great.

I'm experiencing a similar problem, but with specifically the color chooser window and regardless of if it's in the sidebar or not. So far, I've had no other window slowly grow like this.

The sidebar becomes wider from one launch of MyPaint to the next. Something's not being saved right, or the differences in layout are breaking the consistency here.

Window sizes are saved and loaded correctly when subwindows are snapped out of the sidebar.
