bug #20760: Preferences dialog inconsistently ignores xmodmap button remapping

Tue Apr 23 06:54:45 2013, original submission:

When buttons 3 and 2 are swapped (try it with 'xmodmap -e "pointer = 1 3 2 4 5 6 7 8 9 10"'), MyPaint insists that they are not swapped (in the Preferences dialog), and also acts as if they are swapped (on canvas).
My preferences dialog states the following currently:

Scroll View Button3 (after reassignment, the button nearest the tablet)
Popup Menu Button2 (after reassignment, the button furthest from the tablet)

These statements are correct.
However, in order to make them, I had to:

  • delete the existing Scroll/Popup items
  • add 'Scroll view'. Assign it the button nearest the tablet, by.. clicking the button furthest from the tablet.
  • add 'Popup Menu'. Assign it the button furthest from the tablet, by.. clicking the button nearest to the tablet.

The button nearest the tablet now pans,
and the other brings up the menu.

TL;DR : Canvas understands button swapping, Preferences dialog doesn't (different methods in use to get the input?). Result is blatant lies and confusion :)
