It was just a MyPaint bug, should be fully fixed now in git with this commit:

Nailed one down: http://gitorious.org/mypaint/mypaint/commit/1860c35b7

Much better now, but still one more glitch to fix.

"brush strokes being angular" is a different bug: https://gna.org/bugs/?20822

Canvas updates seem to be off by the size of the menu bar (it's okay in full-screen). Needs to be investigated, may be a GTK bug, or a MyPaint bug.

Okay, I can confirm that the canvas displays properly now that I rolled back my GTK version. However, the problem with brush strokes being angular persists.

Screen updates look the same for me when I use GTK+ 3.9.2. (Works fine with GTK+ 3.4.2.) When I pan the canvas it is fixed.

In addition, the persistent brush selector is broken, it does not display the brushes (also only in that GTK version).

Right now the canvas and pen just seem to be entirely junked for me. A lot of the previous UI problems appear to be gone, but now I can't really draw at all. You can see what's happening for me in the attached image.
