A lot of the UI has been redesigned with the release of 1.13.6. Please submit a new report if this is still an issue for you.

Is this still an issue? There's been some graphical development in 1.13.x line and I don't see anything immediately noticeable as a problem when carrying out the instructions (though I might have previously). Current master (1.13.4+dev) gives me a brief loading screen before returning to the next stage of the MP set-up.

I think I misread what this bug report was about.

There is a different and very visible flicker which occurs in 1.11.X - 1.12.1 after loading any mp campaign. For instance, start LoW in a networked setting. The in-game UI will flash 5 or 6 times right after you enter the game. In PR 380 that no longer happens. I believe that the flickers are caused by the host responding to the server sided controller tweaks after he has entered the game.

I have no idea about `A flicker could be seen for short period of time in between loading screen and "Configure Game" window.` though.

If i understand correcntly, this bug is about what happens between the mp configure screen and the mp create screen. So it is completely unrelated to what happens in playturn.cpp or play_controller.cpp

I have also noticed this. I have a few theories about the bug although I don't know what's going on for sure:

(1) I've observed that the flicker is related to the number of sides in the game.
(2) I think it has to do with the "do_init_side" / "maybe_do_init_side" functions in play_controller.

A flicker could be seen for short period of time in between loading screen and "Configure Game" window.

To reproduce:
Go to local multiplayer. Then choose "Campaigns" from drop-down list and double click on any campaign (possibly on LoW). Select any difficulty level and observe what happens shortly after load screen disappears.
