Hi Jeremy, thanks for your prompt reply.
Yes, I was thinking about a similar workaround, and as you say the problem is not being able to easily obtain an intuitive scale. Playing with custom labels it is probably possible to imitate the scale nicely, I'll try anyway.
But if in a future release you are bored because the software is so awesome that you don't know what to do next, this might be a nice addition :).
Thanks again,

Thanks for the suggestion. It's possible to change types of setting via a redirection setting, so it's probably implementatable (though not trivial). I'd have to read up on what it's doing, though.

It might be possible to approximate this using the axis-function, widget and giving a function that approximates symlog, e.g. where( abs(t) < 1, t, sign(t)*log10(abs(t))). It won't have the correct labels, however.

Would it be possible to implement a symlog scale for axes (e.g. http://matplotlib.org/examples/pylab_examples/symlog_demo.html)?
I have some plots where it would be nice to have a log-like behavior but with the possibility of plotting negative values.

I'm not sure on how to implement it, since the "Log" option is a checkbox and symlog would be a "third" option, needing also an additional parameter (the lower threshold where the sign changes).

Thanks in any case for this fantastic software. I'm using it every day (and acknowledging the use in my papers ;)).
