I have upgraded to kubuntu 14.04 (from 13.10), and now I can see the unit animations. They work both with gtk2 and gtk3 clients.

I have tested the same revision where animations were not working for me, and now I can see them.

I found a workaround for the same problem here:
but I did not need to use it.

Right, my problem with gtk2 looks the same than bug #19921 for gtk3.

If I set a very high animation time, I see a big delay and then instant movement.
If I do e(X)plore on an Explorer unit, I do not see it move through the intermediate tiles. It instantly appear in the final tile.

I tried to install gtk3 client, and I can see the unit intermediate movements, but then my game crashes when I open a city window. I'll open a different ticket for this one, with the related output errors.

This is the list of my installed packet versions, in case it helps (prerequisites from INSTALL file):
- pkg-config 0.26-1ubuntu4
- libglib 2.38.1-0ubuntu1
- libatk 2.10.0-2
- libpango 1.32.5-5ubuntu1
- libgtk 2.24.20-1ubuntu1

My system info:
- kubuntu 13.10 (64 bits)
- kernel 3.11.0-19-generic
- kde 4.11.5
- intel HD graphics 2500

I've tried S2_4, S2_5, and trunk on my Xubuntu 12.04 system and animations are working fine for me.

I wonder if it's somehow similar to bug #19921 (which was against Gtk3), somehow triggered by the KDE environment?

  • If you set a very high animation time, do you see a big delay and then instant movement, or is the time simply ignored?
  • If you do e(X)plore on an Explorer unit, does it move instantly or do you see it move through the intermediate tiles?

I compiled S2_4 and there are no animations either.
Latest time I tested S2_4 I had ubuntu (instead of kubuntu) and animations worked, so I guess it might be some missing library related to gtk2.

At the end I installed gtk3 (libgtk-3-dev), compiled freeciv with gtk3 client, and animations finally work for me.
(Still no animations with gtk2 client, and I guess it could happen the same to other kubuntu users).

Thank you for the confirmation.
Mine is 64 bits, and everything is up to date. Compiled without any extra option.

Animations fail for me with S2_5 and TRUNK. I do not think it is related to my client settings (I tested default ones).

Everything else look normal for me, except a leak of memory reported in bug #21851, that I'm thinking might be related to this lack of animations.

S2_5 gtk2 client in Ubuntu 12.04 32 bit and everything seems normal...

I still can't see the unit animations (movements or attacks). Latest tests with rev24753.
Please, could someone confirm that animations are working for him.
If so, I'd thank any idea about why they could be failing for me.
(S2_5 and gtk2 client installed on kubuntu 13.10).

I just tested it with TRUNK rev24704 and the unit animations are not working for me, either.
Please tell me if there is some new client setting that I'm missing, or if it happens to everyone else.

I'm unable to see the unit animations when I play with S2_5 and gtk2 client. Tested with kubuntu, by compiling the source (rev 24704).

I have tried to increase the delay time to the maximum (100 ms for combat, and up to 4000ms for movement), and the result when you order a unit to move several tiles (goto) is a huge wait time, while showing the unit in the initial position, and then sudently the unit appears in the final position.
When there is a combat, enemy units inside cities are never showed, and I can't see the usual combat animation.

I have tested amplio2, amplio and isotrident (in case animations were related to tileset), but no luck to see unit movements.
