Confirmed, now the bug is fixed, the encoding is always UTF-8 and the glyphs are displayed correct.

Tobias, Gregory and Andrew (and Mathieu),

There are some (what a universal word!) inconsistency in the current translation. I know about it.

The original (partial) translation -- you can see it via CVS -- was good (without false modesty). But after some modifications and updates I was just unable to check the whole file (time). And some of my last contributions were just removals/updates of fuzzy entries.

By the way, Gregory is correct about live site: there are many places, where your choice of word depends on the context. When I have the access to live site, I changed some translations.

Unfortunately, 2-3 more weeks (I hope not more than that) my participation will be very limited (to put it mildly).

Gregory and Andrew, if you would like to contribute to the Russian translation, you are very welcome.

P.S. Gregory, thank you for CCing me your letter.

"Strange to see 8859-5 while the original translation was done in KOI8-R."

That's because the default locale for Russian is ISO-8859-5 (at least on the GNA! servers). Gettext handles this conversion automatically from the encoding used in the translation to the encoding for the output locale.

"While you switch it to UTF-8, please ask the author of the translation to test it live on the web site. To put it in nice way, some items are translated not precisely correct."

Could you please be a little more specific on this? Which items are not correctly translated? Most likely, we can already fix this before the switch to UTF-8.

Ah sorry, so it's ISO8859-5. This is such an unusual encoding for Cyrillic letters, I think its used only in US. I don't even have it in my encodings list, thats why I wasnt' able to get correct display, thus I was thinking it was because of double codepage translation (sometimes mail gets distorted like this, so it's a known problem for most people using Cyrillic).

Okay, so if you're aware of this problem, thats fine. Sorry to bother you.

Hi,

we're aware of this problem. Currently, we're preparing a new release of Savane which will fix this bug. It should be available in the next few weeks.

What do you mean by "Switching encodings doesn't help, it looks like it's a double mismatch encoding bug."?

If I set the encoding for those pages manually to ISO-8859-5, they display correctly for me. Have you tried that?

The subject says it all. I have Russian in my browser language preferences set to a higher priority than English. When I enter https://gna.org or savannah.nongnu.org the whole screen is filled with garbage. Switching encodings doesn't help, it looks like it's a double mismatch encoding bug.

It's a obvious and easy to fix error, but quite annoying.
