I don't know if this applies to savane, we'd have to confirm it before including it in the docs.

In any case, I was trying not to extend the installation guide too much, maybe a troubleshooting section should be added with this or similar questions.

Saw this in the GForge FAQ, and it almost certainly applies to Savane too:

In php.ini, memory_limit must be set to at least as large as the larger of upload_max_filesize and post_max_size. if errors persist in uploading files, memory_limit may have to be set as high as 3x as large as the larger of the two max variables. If LimitRequestBody has been set in your apache php.conf, it must also be set to at least as large as the larger of the max variables in php.ini.

I did not copy-paste this from the GForge FAQ but completely rewrote it, so you can use it as-is if you want to.
