The default stays at 512kB. Setting it to an higher value is likely to require specific config of both MySQL and PHP. I prefer keeping a setting that works out-of-the-box. But now, this value is entirely up to site admins.

ok, understood. Can this be turned into a feature request please? I need to get the attachment size up to at least 10 MB.

This is not configurable for now.

You may change the part of the code that do the size test. Note however that you may run into problem with the database (maybe the size of the field must be changed too) and your http daemon (that was probably not designed to handle massive uploads)
