Also suggested in bug #13228. I like the idea to decrease the probability of mirror matches far more than preventing them completely.

OAB and all that, but apparently a number of people like this idea.

I like mirror matches, also UD vs. UD, since they give a very enjoyable challenge - to defeat the opponent with nothing but the same units they can have.

So, I would like to voice here my support for the current practice and the hope that preventing mirror matches not be made a default choice, or - in the worst case - the only used algorithm.

For implementation, I think it should be as simple as possible to the user:
- give the players the choice between random, unique, or choosing a faction,
- the host can of course change this for anyone.

(It will be somewhat counterintuitive if some have "random" and some have "unique", but it's still possible. It just means that after the set (chosen) factions, the "random" players have precedence and their factions are chosen, without limits, and only then does the evaluation of the alternatives for "unique" factions kick in.)

I've been around for some time now (approx 9 months) and one thing that often comes up on the forums and in MP games is how mirror matches is something bad (specially undead vs undead, but others too).

What I'm proposing is a per-game option (like FoW, shroud, etc) to try to prevent the same faction on multiple sides.
