On latest livecd test build A2, situations has improved. We don't have the busy cursor anymore but the text insert cursor. However part of the problem remains because it doesn't switch back and forth between arrow and text insert cursor depending on whether cursor is over text field or outside.

If anybody experiments this cursor issue differently, please post a comment.

A possible and easy fix is to use xsetroot command to set the cursor. See 'man xsetroot'

GDM sets the cursor in a "busy" mode, and it stays like that until the mouse pass on top of one of the textfield -- then it's set as the "editing" cursor and stays like that...
