This bug has been closed because it is marked ready-for-test and
no further comments have been added in a long while. Since we
have not heard otherwise, we assume that the fixes works as intended.

Seems to work very nicely! Pushed to master: https://gitorious.org/mypaint/mypaint/commit/b635d3367dc06cc6e1aef011c349d0980384ee59

I assume the DPI setting isn't something we want to be reading from the display given how poor most display resolutions are compared to print.

The old patch didn't actually work. This one is still not the most beautiful solution, but it does the job.

Here's a patch adressing 1.) of Jon's first post.
It might need some cleanup though...

Related bug and commentary re. the on-canvas interaction thing: bug #17983. Needs some sort of specialised mode for fiddling with the frame though, and all is hand-wavy there at this point.

Yes, we should add that as well, at least in the longer term.
One should still be able to set the size in the dialog though, for the cases where one wants a specific size.

Could size be done that way, too, with corner and edge anchors for dragging? Something like how Gwenview handles region selection for cropping would be obvious and intuitive. It uses a similar visual indicator as the canvas frame - with the area outside the frame darkened - but puts anchors to show it can be resized and also gives numerical output to show actual dimensions.

No, X/Y positioning will be handled by proper on-canvas interaction.

dialogue "Frame" also needs xy numerical options such as high and wide to modify the coordinates of the frame, since in linux the window frame, not moving at will on the drawing, or with the ALT key or other key

With Bug #9099 a minimal document frame implementation was done. However, the dialog would benefit from some more features to make it more useful.

These are the main points I see, in order:
1. Ability to set frame size in cm/inches
2. Ability to save/load frame presets
3. Ability to enable frame and a preset by default

I can provide details about the UI and interactions if someone wants to take this bug.
