I tried to put a "&" into the "#author" field which turned out to make LaTeX unhappy since the "&" was not escaped. Here is the end of my "muse-my-latex-header" to illustrate how this problem can be fixed:

> \\title{<lisp>(muse-publish-escape-specials-in-string (muse-publishing-directive \"title\") 'document)</lisp>}
> \\author{<lisp>(muse-publish-escape-specials-in-string (muse-publishing-directive \"author\") 'document)</lisp>}
> \\date{<lisp>(muse-publish-escape-specials-in-string (muse-publishing-directive \"date\") 'document)</lisp>}

I'd suggest to add "muse-publish-escape-specials-in-string" to the "muse-latex-header" in muse-latex.el.
