Services Availability: CVS/SVN/Arch, etc down for a few hours

Item posted by Loic Dachary <loic> on Sun 14 May 2006 03:45:19 PM UTC.

As of 14 May 2006, 13:00 GMT-1 CVS/SVN/Arch, download areas and home pages are down. Our hosting facility suffered a general power down. All gna.org machines but one rebooted. We are working on this issue and more information will be posted as soon as possible. If you can help or want more information, call +33 x xx xx xx xx.

Update at 17:44 UTC+0200: Things are back to normal. Post a support request in case of trouble. Sorry for the trouble.

Post mortem (so to speak ;-) (posted by loic, Sun 14 May 2006 04:04:18 PM UTC)

The machine is back and the problem was kind of a stupid one. The bios instructed the machine to not power on after a power fail. We were remotely pulling the plug to have it reboot but it would not respond. I changed the bios settings, pushed the power button, watched the fsck run (file system check limit exceeded) and the machine was back with no trouble at all.

The source of the problem is a general power failure in the machine room. And it is part of the reason why we are moving the machines to a new location in two weeks. More information about this will be posted soon.
