Article: Forged emails and Gna! admins

Sometimes, we, "Gna! people", the admins, contact users (that means you of the likes of you :)) by mail, for different kind of reasons. To be sure a mail was really sent by one of us, if it claims to be so:

- First check if it comes from someone listed at <https://gna.org/project/memberlist.php?group=admin>
- Then check the GPG signature of the mail
- Finally, check if the list help or the list project were added in carbon-copy (it is likely to be the case)

Here comes a sample of forged email:

Dear user $YOURACCOUNT@gna.org,

We have detected that your e-mail account was used to send a huge amount of spam during the recent week.
Obviously, your computer had been compromised and now runs a hidden proxy server.

We recommend that you follow instruction in the attachment in order to keep your computer safe.

The gna.org support team.
