Mirth Player - Summary
Mirth is a simple, fast, and robust alternative to Adobe Flash, Adobe Shockwave, and Java Applets. With its minimalistic approach, it is very easy to learn to develop with.
Mirth supports hardware and software graphics (defaulting to hardware), sound, input, and http GET and POST in compiled or plain-text squirrel script.
Why something new? Web-based applications simplify distribution, but all of the above (Flash,Shockwave,Java) are not accessible to all developers, whether for monetary or technical reasons. Mirth is a platform that is free of cost, easy to lean, and simple to setup by an end-user, putting more power into the hands of independent developers.
The goals of Mirth:
- Create a seamless and safe end-user experience
- Maintain few but powerful features
- Support as many operating systems as possible
- Build on top of existing standards and systems
Mirth currently has a prototype player which supports a large majority of features that will be in the final version. The player has not been integrated into a browser, however.
