Welcome to the Savane Documentation Project. Currently, we offer basic documentation both for system administrators and users (pdf and html versions are available from the "Files" area):

Savane Installation Guide

The aim of this document is to provide help in the process of installing and configuring savane, for system administrators with basic knowledge of the various services implemented, or to any user wanting to try the software.
It records a local test installation of savane on a Debian Sarge. Wherever possible, general explanations are given in the hope that it will be useful under different situations.

Savane User Guide

Provides an overview of what savane is, and what features it has. It deals with general issues, features and basic concepts, as well as providing a practical guide to configuring a user account and a project at a savane-powered site.
It does not provide technical descriptions of how things work (you can refer to the installation guide for that), nor does it explain how to use savane services (implementing platforms, such as Gna! offer useful FAQs on these topics).

Where to get more info

The Savane Project offers a support tracker for assistance, as well as concise documentation that could be enough for more experimented users:

  • sr #317 "What is the difference between backend and frontend?"
  • sr #320 "Savane history: from SourceForge to Savane"
  • sr #729 "How do I install Savane"

No in-depth documentation, addressing a real-life production system is available at the moment, since none of the current team members (of Savane Documentation Project) have enough experience to address such matters.

How to contribute

This projects offers a mailing list to discuss documentation-related matters, and two trackers. The bug tracker is open for anyone to post documentation bugs (typos, errors, missing aspects) or documentation feature requests. Once approved by team members, bugs will be transformed into tasks to be fulfilled.
If you'd like to know how this project started, take a look at sr #422.

Savane-doc comes to life...
posted by irenefm, Sun 17 Jul 2005 05:10:28 PM UTC - 0 replies

After a period of inactivity, savane documentation project grows in group members, and will soon offer, not one, but two savane installation guides!

A bit strange, I know, but two of us had been separatly working on the same kind of document, and have therefore decided to upload both versions, starting work on a unified document as soon as we can.

We would very much appreciate reviews, comments, corrections... feel free to use mail lists or the Bug tracking system to post opinions.
