You explained it clearly, I understand why you want these features now. Thanks.

We made a study of the current needs in the company and this key points was developed based in this.

a) Savane you can't establish a relation between projects (or I didn't find it).

ex: Currently, in the system that we have we can relate projects. Maybe a big project uses any of small projects. If someone detects a bug or error in a small project maybe the big project will be affected. It won't be detected if you the projects aren't related.

b) Otherwise what doesn't convince us about Savane is that we can not make a categorization of projects [...]

ex: Our original idea is that you can see a complete list of projects with the intention of reuse code. If we have to develop one project in Language X with Security Y and Database Z will be usefull to see all the projects developed with X, Y and Z (probably better than search by a keyword).

I hope I have explained well.

Regards.

Hi,

Indeed.
You can reassign tracker items among different projects though.
But there's no link between projects.

Indeed. Projects can only be searched by keywords.

This is interesting: can you give me examples of when you need these featurse?

SA = Savane

Ok, new points:

a) The last point says that in Savane you can't establish a relation between projects (or I didn't find it).

b) Otherwise what doesn't convince us about Savane is that we can not make a categorization of projects. That will translate into an increased difficulty when we search for projects (p.e. because we can't see a complete list of projects developeds in PHP).

I don't know if I have correctly explained but I try =]

Hi,

A couple comments:

> Select Box, Date Field).

Note that I don't know of any project in both Savannah and Gna! that needed more than 10 additional fields.

Patch allows people external to the project to submit patches for the development team to review.

The files that Savane saves in the database are tracker attachments, which are usually < 500kB.

The recommended way to make a release is to enable the download area feature, which is usually accessible with HTTP/FTP (download) and SFTP/scp/rsync (administration). This is most commonly coupled with a News item announcing the release features and its location.
Users can browse the download area to look at older releases.

What is SA?

We are thinking in Savane or GForge, but we have a key points that will help us to decide what of two systems deploy.

I write here the little study that we elaborate. If something isn't correct, please, tell me.

---

- CDE Migration:
Reading documentation about Savane (https://gna.org/projects/savane) I don't find nothing about it. There are initiatives to develop a GForge - Savane (and biceversa) converter but at this moment it is only desire.

- Product Release in CDE: (this is a process that we have in the company and we aren't sure that CDE supports)
In Savane, we have the next features: Documents, Support, Forum, Bugs, Tasks, Patches and News. It seems that the most adequate is Patches. Here exist the possibility to configure (similar than in GForge) the fields that you want. The inconvenient is that you have a limit of 10 extra fields for every kind (and the kinds are Text Field, Text Area, Select Box, Date Field).

- CDE File System:
Savane save the uploaded files in the Database (MySQL).

- Relation between different projects:
SA has no relation between two projects option.

---

This is our key points and a response to them in a Savane context.

It much depends on the tool you use.

As far as Savane is concerned, you can export trackers items to an XML format, and frontend data is otherwise stored in a classical MySQL database.

Your source code itself will be managed with a VCS such as Git or SVN, which is independent of Savane. Nowadays it is increasingly easier to switch between VCSes thanks to their import/export features, or failing that, by using the "Tailor" converter.

Which CDE are you contemplating using?

Hi all!

In my company we are evaluating if we will use a CDE tool or not.

We have a doubt:

We don't know how flexible is a CDE for extract all the information that we have entered to the tool.

It is important for us because we don't know if one day we want to migrate to other system, want to create our own tool or others.

(I don't know if I'm explained well ... but thanks for the answers!)
