What was the exact reason for the failed install?
Were the packages you list installed?

The last version of Adun is available for Ubuntus hardy version - perhaps this would work.
http://packages.ubuntu.com/source/hardy/adun.app

You could also try the gnustep-startup package - thats what I use on ubuntu and it works fine once the development headers for the various libraries are present.

Installation of GNUstep in Ubuntu requires the following libraries:

# cvs
# gobjc-4.0
# make
# libgmp-dev
# openssl
# libssl-dev
# libxml2-dev
# libxslt-dev
# ffcall-dev (universe component)
# libjpeg-dev
# libtiff4-dev
# libpng12-dev
# libungif4-dev
# libfreetype-dev
# libx11-dev
# libart-2.0-dev
# libxft-dev
# libxext-dev
# libxmu6-dev

I couln't get Adun to complile with the prepackaged version of GNUstep
