You have to untar the tarball somewhere. For instance, if your running installation is in /var/www/savane, you could maybe untar it in /var/www/tmp/ (and then you would get /var/www/tmp/savane).

You have to run the update scripts in update/1.0.6 and, after, the ones in update/1.0.7 (read READMES that are contained in these directories, whenever they exist).

Then you should replace the old installation, by moving /var/www/savane into /var/www/tmp/savaneold and moving /var/www/tmp/savane to /var/www/savane, run ./configure && make && make install in /var/www/savane

You should also look in ChangeLog.byversion the sections [SITE SPECIFIC CONTENT] and [CONFIGURATION] and applies necessary changes mentioned there, for the site-specific-content and configuration.

And that should be it.

Note that Savane 1.0.8 has been released the other day.
