Resolved.

Apparently there is a discrepancy regarding a call to the following function:
int mysql_shutdown(MYSQL*, mysql_enum_shutdown_level) mysql.h:508
from lib/connection.cpp:320
bool suc = !(mysql_shutdown(&mysql_ SHUTDOWN_ARG));

It would appear that there was a typographical error, in that there should be a comma after &mysql_ (parameter 1), however that does not appear to solve the problem, if you could shed some light on this it would be appreciated.

Additionally, the latest binary in the debian repos for mysql++-dev is for 2.0.7-3.

SPECS:
debian-etch 2.6.18-4-686
mysql-server 5.0.32-7 (mysql-server-5.0)
mysql++-2.2.1
