I support the opinion of the other speakers. Git SCM support would be nice. Please reconsider the "Won't Do". It's not about testing new technologies anymore. Speaking of the lack of resources: Maybe GNA could free hardware and support resources by ending the support for the nowadays "historical" CVS SCM.
Are there stats provided somewhere about how many projects out of 1302 are still using CVS/Arch on Gna?

Thanks Jan,

I think the same thing: git is one of the most interesting SCMs, and I am using it in my project (gepolabo). It would be very nice to add this support since I am planning to publish the project into svn through the git-svn command, but this trick is taking (or better to say, wasting) a lot of my time...

Are there plans to reconsider the decision "Won't Do" given that git is one of the major SCMs with still increasing popularity? Would be a pity having to move projects to a different hoster just because of lacking git support.

Frankly, I dont think it would be wise to support one more SCM even if we had the resources. Too many things to support would just lead to poor support for all of them. At the current rate, we would have to support 20 SCM by the end of the year, because these days each time one guy miss a feature in a SCM, he write one from scratch.
And in the end, this surely also lower the support and quality of each SCM itself.
Arch, SVN provides already two very specific way to manage source code. CVS is the historical one. I'm dont get why we would want to support one more SCM; it's not like if we started gna for the sake of testing new technologies.

Side note: you could still use the download area via HTTP or Rsync as a GIT repository if you wish. But you would not have gitweb, of course.

We're currently short of ressources (rack space, disk space, free IPs, etc.) to host other services, otherwise we would interested in supporting it.

Hi Guys,

I was wondering if you are planning to support GIT as an SCM. It works quite well and require very basic server (like HTTP) for dowloading/mirroring.

I know that the GNA team is already making a great job to support all the others SCM.

Just a simple wish,

Keep the good work,

adulau
