I think you should include the complete legal version, maybe in the main directory of your package like COPYING.nonprogram (or whatever name you come up with), saying it applies to non-program data. Hidden in a directory may lead people to think the whole is coming under GPL.

(hmm, I guess I should have put the whole creative commons license in there, as for GPL. Seems CC has less of a history of bein distributed in file packages, so they don't talk about it a lot. I'm not sure if I should include the CC license in english or in legalese :-P)

I guess that satisfies us.

I've included a tiny "License.txt" in the "tiles" directory, that says :

These images are Copyright (C) Emile Kroeger and licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License. To view a copy of this license, visit http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0/ or send a letter to Creative Commons, 559 Nathan Abbott Way, Stanford, California 94305, USA.

According to gnu.org, Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike 2.0 is "a copyleft Free license for artistic works and entertainment works". Should be ok.

One issue remaining: what creatives commons license we are talking about? The problem with creative commons is the fact they propose plenty of license that are strongly different (but most of them are probably suitable for non-software stuff).

I think we can accept such files (see <https://gna.org/about/#art3>) but I would need to mention it to others gna fellows, so I need more precise info.

ok, cleaner version provided. includes the GPL license, headers for those source files which are mine (all except one that is public domain), and a Creative Commons license for the artwork.

"That's no problem at all, the current version doesn't have all that but any release will. "

Well, we want that any files we host have these. And since we do not want to spend time afterward to check, we usually require that to be done before project approval. Is that ok for you?

GPL text file / file headers : That's no problem at all, the current version doesn't have all that but any release will.

Update : I now have tiles of my own creation, so I don't rely on anybody else's data any more.

Before releasing your project under the license you choose, you
must place copyright notices and permission to copy statements
at the beginning of every file of source code.

In addition, if you haven't already, please copy the plain text
version the license (usually this file is named "COPYING").
The GPL is available from <http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.txt>.

Additional instructions are available from
<http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html>, that are usually
valid for libre software licenses.

The GPL FAQ explains why these procedures must be followed. To
learn why a copy of the GPL must be included with every copy of
the code, for example, go to

Site Admin. Approval/Edition URL:

System Group Name:

Full Name:

GNU General Public License V2 or later

Other License:

I am building a game world that is collaboratively editable the way a wiki (so while it looks like an RPG, it is more of a world building / storytelling tool). For now, it is little more than a visual chat with limited edition capacities (the modifications to the gameworld are saved, it can be played both solo and online). It is written in Python and uses Twisted Matrix for the network, and pygame for the user interface.

Current state of the code : All on my hard disk, I don't have anywhere to upload it to (which is why I am here :). I can email a tarball of the code if needed.

There is one source file I haven't written, it is a pygame utility (a text imput box for pygame) I have downloaded from a python code repository, and that is licensed under the public domain (if that may cause a problem, I can replace it with something equivalent licensed under GPL 2.0 without too much effort). I haven't modified it.

I do not yet have any graphics to go with the game. I used some from another Libre project called Daimonin. Their artwork license status is confused at the moment, and I have contacted them to see what could and couldn't be released under a clearly defined license (creative commons or the like). Until then, I won't release anything with any of their artwork (I can draw some ugly tiles and sprites myself)

Other Software Required:
python, pygame and twistedmatrix

Other Comments:
Oh, also, I'm a member of Nekeme, that french Libre game development association.
