Well, if you can come up with something for Mozilla and Konqueror, it is fine for me. We'll see if MSIE 7 can handle it, and if it cannot, people using MSIE 7 will have to fix it.

This kind of development however should be made on a branch I think.

I don't have IE, neither at home nor at work. I could implement it for Mozilla and Konqueror, but I cannot guarantee it would work for IE 7.

If there is a javascript that would work for Mozilla/Konqueror/MSIE 7, we could do it and ignore MSIE 5, 6

If we have to maintain something for each browser, I think it will be quite a pain in the long run.

(for javascript, the idea as stated in Developers Docs is that javascript are ok if they are not required; in this case, it is about providing an extra feature, so it is ok)

From a quick look at W3 standard and Wikipedia code for this, it seems there is no standard way to tweak textarea contents at all. E.g. Wikipedia uses two totally different approaches to Mozilla and IE browsers... Is it OK or is non-standard JavaScript a no-no thing for Gna!?

Why not. You are welcome to open a branch for this (see recipe #124).

I can take a stab at it if you wish.

We should provide buttons to easily use the markup like with a little javascript like it is in some forum engines.

Some users at CERN would like to have this. It would be indeed more user friendly.
