The Ubuntu Wubi installer is able to install Ubuntu in a disk image file written inside a standard Windows partition. Then some modifications to the Windows boot loader make it possible to boot Ubuntu instead of Windows. This way users don't have to repartition their hard disk before installing. This is particularly interesting on quite recent computers since manufacturers tend to fill HD with the maximum 4 primary partitions…

This could be transposed to DoudouLinux with the advantage that the DoudouLinux system is already recorded into a disk image file and is moreover used in read-only mode. This means that DoudouLinux does not need to ship with a R/W NTFS driver, the standard Linux driver should be enough. Of course the Wubi tool has to be able to write on NTFS partitions, but it seems to be a separate pure Windows program.

So globally our Wubi installer would have to:

1. copy the DoudouLinux image file into Windows
2. modify the Windows boot menu to add itself
3. tell user what to do

That's all! NB: we may have some troubles to correctly set the syslinux boot loader though - if it is still required.
