The last part is now ok.

The branch will be ready for merge soon. If I dont do it in the next three days, I'll do it in the end of august.

The voting system is now functional and being tested at Gna.

Still missing: the feature box for the front page.

Well, I spent 4 hours this afternoon on this voting thing but it looks ok :D

I am not sure about the best way to deal with permission.

The easy way is to use what exists to manage the vote field: used/unused, show to members/show to authenticated.
The complicated way is to make that a group type/group setting, like for the usual posting restriction model.

I think I'll follow the easy way assuming it will be powerful enough. But some users will maybe be puzzled to found out that this must be configured in field usage, not in users perms (well, it's not completely strange).

It would be interesting to give users the ability to vote for items.

This would come along with a new field for items + "my votes" section. It should not be very complicated.

This mecanism could be used to vote for items and for projects.

However, to avoid having people creating accounts solely to make vote, maybe we should give that right only to people having creating their account something like 4 monthes before and that have logged-in frequently since then (or any other mean to be sure they actually are real persons).
