Savane could use a template engine for pages, for instance, Smarty. This would allow for better separation of UI presentation and logic.

However, I'm unsure if it is a serious performance drag and how important that is for Savane. I.e. how much CPU time is eaten by PHP interpreter currently (on Gna!, at least)?
