A modified version of dexconf is available. It forces Intel/nVidia driver only. It does not test for a unique video card either.

As indicated in ticket https://gna.org/bugs/?17228, it may happen that video driver is not correctly set by the X server. This happened for an Intel and an nVidia chipset. We propose that in the case a single video is detected, its driver be forced if it is Intel or nVidia chipset, eventually ATI. We need to parse lspci output and extract both vendor and model:

$ lspci | grep -i vga
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82915G/GV/910GL Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 04)

$ lspci | grep -i vga
00:0d.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation GeForce 6100 nForce 405 (rev a2)

We should find tables of supported hardware in package descriptions. Packages are:

xserver-xorg-video-ati - X.Org X server -- ATI display driver wrapper
xserver-xorg-video-i128 - X.Org X server -- i128 display driver
xserver-xorg-video-i740 - X.Org X server -- i740 display driver
xserver-xorg-video-intel - X.Org X server -- Intel i8xx, i9xx display driver

xserver-xorg-video-nv - X.Org X server -- NV display driver
xserver-xorg-video-r128 - X.Org X server -- ATI r128 display driver
xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd - X.Org X server -- AMD/ATI r5xx, r6xx display driver
xserver-xorg-video-radeon - X.Org X server -- ATI Radeon display driver
