Gna.org SSL certificate renewed
posted by zerodeux, Thu 24 Apr 2014 07:13:06 AM UTC - 0 replies

While we were quick to patch the Heartbleed attack, it took a little bit more time and administrative work to renew our https://gna.org/ and https://mail.gna.org/ certificates.

It is now a single and freshly issued multi-domain certificate issued by Comodo via Gandi. Although your preferred web browser will automatically trust it, you're welcome to verify by yourself. The SHA fingerprint should read 94:69:D1:5B:B6:B0:64:08:E3:08:97:3B:6A:9F:5F:9E:54:22:D1:D5.

Heartbleed status and measures
posted by beuc, Wed 09 Apr 2014 09:47:29 AM UTC - 0 replies

Gna! was patched to address the recent openssl "heartbleed" vulnerability.

Gna! has been running a vulnerable version since up to 2 months, and the attacker could silently retreive information from part of the system memory, including credentials and private https keys.

As a safety measure, we removed the current sessions (so you need to reconnect), and are in the process of renewing the https certificate.
Changing your password is also recommended.

From the sysadmin's side, this was the last major system upgrade.
Now maybe we can go back to the programmer's side and think about fusionning with FusionForge :)

Apparently this is due to a memory leak in one of the new daemons.
We're investigating!

CVS upgraded, and deprecated
posted by beuc, Thu 27 Feb 2014 09:33:49 PM UTC - 0 replies

We found a way do without our venerable CVS patches and upgrade to the latest version from Debian, from "stable" 1.11 to "feature" 1.12. Let us know if there's any issue.

Also, we plan to progressively deprecate CVS, since it's increasingly hazardous to maintain it. Today we disabled CVS for new projects. We're also thinking about how to archive or convert CVS repositories within the next few months. This probably involves providing Git repos :)

Arch SSH host key changed
posted by beuc, Fri 12 Mar 2010 10:15:26 PM UTC - 0 replies

Arch now shares a virtual machine with the download/sftp service.
Consequently, arch's SSH host key is now the same than download/sftp, and thus changed to:

# ssh-keygen -l -f ssh_host_rsa_key.pub
1024 db:cd:a2:94:c7:73:e3:43:0b:77:a2:4d:59:ec:16:2d ssh_host_rsa_key.pub
# ssh-keygen -l -f ssh_host_dsa_key.pub

Apache upgrade + Arch developper access change
posted by beuc, Thu 11 Mar 2010 12:02:48 AM UTC - 0 replies

We moved from Apache(v1) to Apache 2 for homepage.gna.org.
While we made efforts to keep an equivalent configuration, there might be some differences - feel free to report any changes :)

Also, Arch repositories moved (for developper / SFTP access only, not for read-only access) from /upload to /srv/arch. This is because we're going to merge this server with dl.gna.org, and we need to avoid a path conflict.

rsync rsync://svn.gna.org/svn/

Gna! downtime on wednesday night, memory failure
posted by zerodeux, Wed 04 Mar 2009 08:07:28 PM UTC - 0 replies

A failed disk - which was already offline - was changed tonight. While this operation should have been a discrete 10min downtime, a memory module decided to go on strike and prevented the server to boot again at this precise moment. We had to remove the faulty module pair and will live temporarily with less RAM and maybe some performance penalty.

The outage started at 18h45 and ended circa 21h00 EST. We are sorry for this inconvenience.
