A new ticket is open to deal with an inside Windows installer:

Maybe a better solution would be to install in Windows. As the DoudouLinux file system is essentially a huge compressed file, it should be quite easy to “install” it inside a Windows partition. We would then just have to set the correct boot parameters and… install grub or syslinux.

Caveat: needs R/W on NTFS partitions to install.

This could be processed in a separate ticket, or rename this one since a basic installer now works.

We can still wonder about an Ubuntu-like installer. On the one hand it would provide advanced users the ability to install DDL for a double boot. On the other hand it seems that recent PC's ship with 4 primary partitions for Windows. This means that it is impossible to install another system without complex repartitioning… (strange marketing decision, isn't it? ;) )

Moreover we do not want a complex install system, neither a tool that would be easily accessible at system boot for example - because of children. For these reasons a dedicated Python script is being developed. It will be shipped on both CD and USB keys even if only keys can install at the moment. Details to come soon on the website…

As of writing, it takes too much room on CD. Maybe could be included on USB images only?

Read in the lh_config man page:

--debian-installer enabled|cdrom|netinst|netboot|businesscard|live|disabled

defines which type, if any, of the debian-installer should be included in the resulting binary image. By default, no installer is included. All available flavours except live are the identical configurations used on the installer media produced by regular debian-cd. When live is choosen, the live-installer udeb is included so that debian-installer will behave different than usual - instead of installing the debian system from packages from the medium or the network, it installs the live system to the disk.
